About Andrew Pellechia

Art is something that I have been doing ever since I was young, even if it was just scribbling onto the page. Being in high school, art is the one subject, other then lunch, where I can relax and express myself. My aunt is an art teacher and she is someone who motivates me to keep working and improving my artwork. She gives me advice when I need it, and a few of my pieces have been created based off of her past works.

My sketchbook is something I can use whenever I want to just draw. I use it a lot to let my mind run wild and think of or create anything that comes to my mind. I sketch all of my idea for upcoming projects to get an idea of what I may do. I usually start the process of creating a piece by researching some pictures of past works by other artists to get some ideas on what I can do. Most of the projects I have created were almost exactly what I had originally planned them to be. Some of my pieces were altered from what they were originally going to be from my sketchbook because of different obstacles I have encountered while creating these pieces.

Our last project was one of my favorite projects we have ever done. I had fun creating the head and using surrealism. Surrealism is something I find interest in; it's something that is not normal, it's different. My last piece doesn't have much to do with past life experiences, but I have always liked the idea of a volcano and how the rock cracks and the bright red/orange that comes out of the dull colored rock. The two colors really contrast well and they draw your attention to the detail. That's where I came up with the idea to make the whole head look as if it were cracking. The idea with the large mouth and the eye in the middle of the mouth was all experimentation, and it turned out nice! I never really tried to create facial features prior to creating this project. It turns out, that I like creating the eyes, mouth, teeth, etc. This has been my favorite year in art, and I am so proud of each one of my pieces that came out of the kiln!
